Final Evaluation

Time to tell you what I think!!! I guess...

1. What did you like about the course?
I liked the creativity mixed with the practicality of coding, and the color and art that we did in photoshop.

2. What could be improved?
On some projects I felt there wasn't enough time, but if you actually got to work then there was plenty of time to do it.

3. Add a picture from your favourite assignment.

Photoshop was my favorite

4. What should you have done to do better in this course?
My biggest problem I think is my memory. When I follow along with instructions I do fine, but often I forget steps and go to fast, and my work suffers.

Too dumb to die screenshots

Starting the project, I set up the scene with everything on a different layer.
I set up the rest of the characters, all on different layers, so I could animate them later.
I then animated using tweening and puppet warp, but my animation stayed slightly choppy.

Game Journalism Day 5

Now let's see how far I can get in this game. I'm hoping that by nightfall I will have a campfire and a storage chest. Prediction: I will probably die at least once.

I did not die! I'm actually very proud of myself. I managed to outrun three wolves and a bear, but I did not die!

However, I didn't manage to get a storage chest or foundation for myself in the half an hour I played. Disappointing, I know. I looked around but couldn't find any fiber plants - which was why I couldn't reach my goals. I did manage to make myself a campfire though and gathered some supplies. I also finally figured out how to aim the gun and I killed myself a chicken so all in all, I think I was pretty successful.

Game Journalism Day 3

A good way to set yourself up in the game is to craft for yourself three items.

It is in your best interests to make a campfire so you don't freeze in the night. Another plus is if you do manage to kill yourself a chicken or rabbit (which is really hard, ask me how I know) you can cook the meat over an open flame.

To craft this usefulness takes a few steps.

You'll need to craft sticks, craft the campfire and then place it.

You might also want this useful weapon.

a shotgun. Also a several stepped crafting process that I have not managed to complete yet, unfortunately.

a storage crate to hold your precious possessions is also helpful - again, unfortunately, I was unable to get to craft this. Hopefully you will have better luck.

in order to place said storage crate, you'll need a wooden foundation to place it on. There are three types of foundation, I chose the curved because it took the least resources. There is also the flat and staired.

Game Journalism Day 2

1. Who created the game 'subsistance'?
the game 'subsistence' was created by the steam greenlight team AKA one person who does awesome stuff in their spare time.

2. In-game interactions.

In the game the most beneficial interactions is with trees

from which you get wood

and chickens, plants and resources from rocks like ores.

the interactions you want to avoid are with wolves or bears,

or you will end up dead.

On the first day I only died three times, but on day two I died five times. Also avoiding falling would be best.

Another thing that happened to me was getting lost. If you set up a campfire or a base, don't stray too far. I got lost, and then I died.

If you do come in contact with a wolf, and it hasn't really caught up to you yet, bob and weave. But if it chases you, you're pretty much dead. If you want to go unnoticed by the animals, you can try crouching. You make less noise, but also move slower.
